An Umbrella: A Short Story

An umbrella

I love rainy days, because my grandma would always get me from school, putting me under our umbrella. Today is very dreary, but I’m very excited for my grandma to pick me up.

I waited and waited, but my grandma didn’t appear, so I ran home with the rain pouring on my head. I passed by a cafe, and I saw my grandma drinking tea and chatting with some friends.

I didn’t go in or wave to my grandma. I just walked past her like nothing happened.

Did my grandma forget to pick me up? I thought, while walking, and then I saw a supermarket. I decided to go in to dry off my clothes.

But when I saw my grandma buying groceries and chatting with the cashier, I was very mad.

Did my grandma forget to pick me up because she wanted to buy groceries?

I ran out of the supermarket crying, running home as fast as I could. Then I saw my grandma riding a bus! My grandma doesn't need to go anywhere, though. I thought, but I chased the bus, hoping for it to stop.

Instead, I fell on the street sidewalk, the mud was all over my clothes.

Soon I got home, where I saw my umbrella sitting there perfectly.

I see my grandma’s picture sitting there too.

Then I remember my grandma has already passed away. I would have to walk home by myself from now on.
