Planning for After High School

Planning your future following the graduation of high school may seem like a very daunting path. As an individual who felt there was only a couple of paths I could take, here's my tips so you can gain a full picture and perhaps go where that may lead you.

First things first: What do YOU like?

Start by thinking of the subjects you take, do you favour English or Math? Science or Geography? Art or gym? Go through these things and think why you like it, what aspects excites you and which frustrate you? This, right here, can be the stepping stone into finding what you could like based on what you already favour.

Example: Personally, I preferred English because it had a lot of communication, I knew I liked to help and solve problems but not of the analytical kind such as within math. I wasn't completely sure where I wanted to direct this to so I took an experimental class with psychology, sociology, and anthropology, which led me to choosing the degreee I did. This actually leads in to the next step!

Try New Things!!

Trying new things may be daunting or uncomfortable at times but its a way that you can find out what you as an individual likes and dislikes. Perhaps it doesn't always have to be school related, you could volunteer in a garden to see what it's like working with your hands or you could join a speaking class and see how it feels to talk to the masses. There's all this exploration to be done and you never know where it may lead you.

Getting a job close to what you want to do

Perhaps you want to be a teacher, great! Now would be a great time to exercise your abilities as a tutor. Oh, you want to be a restaurant owner? Begin at the bottom to see how it all works. You want to run a business? Perfect, find a newer small business and help them out, see the experience of starting something.

There are so many options for university or for trades or for entering the workforce right off the bat. It is up to you to find which one is going to make you passionate and where you will work your hardest. My best advice is to not rush it, feel confident in your choices before you make them.
