With the advancements of technology and kids absolutely loving it, they may begin to wonder if university is still worth it today compared to years ago. The answer, we believe, is yes! University is extremely valuable, not only for what it teaches but for what it stands for on a greater level and how it can serve you. University gives you opportunities to network, find your passion, and shows what you don't like. Lots of people go to university with a deep uncertainty about what they're going to love, hence why this type of exploration is so important.
It also doesn't hurt to have more credentials for our current state of employment. Overall, there are many benefits to attending, and we've compiled a list below.
1. Credentialing & Career Access
Many professions (e.g. medicine, law, engineering, academia) require a degree even to enter the field.
Employers still use degrees as a filter—proof of discipline, commitment, and foundational knowledge.
2. Skill Development
Universities build both hard skills (data analysis, engineering, research) and soft skills (communication, critical thinking, collaboration).
Structured learning can help students develop the depth and rigor needed in complex fields.
3. Networking & Social Capital
Students gain access to alumni networks, mentors, internships, and job pipelines.
Peers and professors can become long-term collaborators or employers.
4. Personal Growth & Exploration
University gives space to explore identity, beliefs, values, and interests.
It often builds independence, confidence, and resilience.
5. Research & Innovation
Universities are hubs for knowledge creation, driving advances in science, technology, and the humanities.
